iOS Apps

Eight months ago, our iOS Fellows came into our program with little or no coding experience. But they had a few things that are fundamental to success: grit, hustle, and determination.

You can see these qualities in their mastery of our rigorous technical curriculum, their ability to overcome difficult challenges, and their design of their first full-featured apps—products that are now available for download in the Apple Store.

Let’s take a closer look at what they’ve built.

Elite is a sports application that tracks your casual competitive games based on Elo-ranking and user’s location. It gives users a chance to bring out their competitive attitude on the courts of New York and brag to their friends about how great they are. When you win enough games, you can become what we like to call an “ELITE.” So for those who say “ball is life,” PROVE IT! And download Elite.

Perception uses augmented reality to turn printed media into video experiences. Users can point their phone at a Perception-enabled image and a corresponding video will instantly play in place of the image on the screen. The inspiration came from the movie posters in Times Square. We thought: wouldn’t it be great if we could watch the movie trailer right there on the spot? For future iterations, we plan to implement a platform where our partners can submit their content to our backend, where we associate the images with the videos.

Built with augmented reality technology, Stellar turns your device into an interactive planetarium right in front of you. Users can learn all about the celestial objects that inhabit our Solar System, including the sun, planets, and moons. Inspiration for the app came from our curiosity for new and emerging technologies, as well as our interest in visual learning. Going forward, we hope to implement more immersive experiences in the app such as emulating the experience of standing on the moon and educational features such as fun facts and quizzes.

Are you in NYC and in need of free Wi-Fi? WiFinder helps New Yorkers find free Internet hotspots connections based on their zip code or current location. Wifinders can access the location, network name, SSID, and description of a particular hotspot both online or offline. WiFinder also allow users to save WiFi information to the app, or to their photo library as a screenshot with the tap of a button.
